Chile’s new president Gabriel Boric and his environmental programme against climate crisis

Chile must recognise and declare itself in a state of climate emergency. Although it is not responsible for this crisis, it will suffer its most acute impacts if it does not adapt and contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Since the beginning of his campaign, Gabriel Boric and his coalition have proposed an ambitious programme of transformations in favour of sustainable growth.

The highlights of the campaign are as follows:

1. Adaptation to the climate crisis, including disaster risk reduction, protection of biodiversity and animal rights.
2. Energy transition, the main principles of which are decarbonisation, residential generation and district heating.
3. The problem of water scarcity, focusing on the importance of the human right to water and the protection of ecosystems.
